The Señorío de Bertiz Natural Park is located alongside the Baztan Valley, on the banks of the Bidasoa River and near the Cantabrian Sea. This lush and colorful forest blends nature and legend, and welcomes you with a beautiful garden featuring modernist and Art Nouveau elements. While walking along its paths, you might be lucky enough to spot a lamia, the mythical sirens said to protect these woods.
Covering 2,040 hectares, the park hosts rich biodiversity, with beech, oak, and alder trees dominating the landscape. It’s home to deer, roe deer, and a wide variety of birds. Outdoor enthusiasts will find trails ranging from an easy 1.5 km walk to a challenging 22 km hike leading to the summit of Mount Aizkolegi.
The crown jewel of the park is its historical and artistic garden, over 100 years old. It offers a sensory journey through plant species from around the world, including sequoias and camellias, all set among ponds and romantic viewpoints.
