Hiking around Belate

The Belate Loop Trail is an ideal route for enjoying hiking in a natural setting rich in history and beauty. Starting from the Venta Quemada parking area on the NA-1210 road, this 6 km circular trail takes you over the Belate pass, through beech forests and grazing meadows. With a 150-meter elevation gain and low difficulty, it’s perfect for those seeking a relaxing walk with stunning panoramic views. The trail, which takes about 150 minutes, crosses the boundary between the Baztan and Ultzama valleys, following marked paths, forest tracks, and part of the GR-12 route.

The Aratxuri Trail is a shorter 2 km route, but equally beautiful. Starting from the small pass near the Hermitage of Belate, it leads you through the Aratxuri ravine, following white and green trail markers. With a 50-meter elevation gain and medium difficulty on the second part, hikers can return from the hermitage to shorten the walk. This trail connects with the GR-12 and also with a short section of the Baztanés Way of St. James, making it a great option for those looking for a peaceful and immersive nature hike.

After a day exploring Belate, there’s no better place to rest than at the Hotel Restaurante Venta de Ultzama. Surrounded by nature, this hotel offers a tranquil place to sleep and relax. Wondering where to eat after your hike? The restaurant will surprise you with its delicious homemade cuisine, perfect for refueling. The cozy hostal also offers comfortable accommodation, ideal for anyone looking for a restful haven after a full day of hiking.
